New York Times Ain’t All That I’s Cracked Up to Be

I recently had to reevaluate my NYTimes subscription and I certainly won’t be renewing it. MacLife’s high raing of the New York Times apps is unwarranted. Take a second to compare the NYT’s site to the likes of NPR, The Washington Post, and the BBC. It sported the worst interface of them all, and its redesign certainly didn’t get me started on news coverage. The Times has now become famous for covering up the news or its sleazy, cheap reportage than for doing the straight hard news. Based on these reasons alone, is it really worth the $16 a month subscription?
Yeah, sure – I’ll miss Gail Collins and her funny columns. But I’m going to get my news elsewhere from now on. And I suggest you do likewise. Because at this point, it really isn’t the money spent, so much as the poor quality of the product.
You’re certainly entitled to your own opinion of the New York Times, but the publication’s iOS app is definitely on par with what we’d consider to be a superbly designed reading app for fans of old media.
