From the makers of ReBirth, Figure is the latest music making app to reach the iPhone and it’s creating quite a stir. With a minimalist design that keeps everything simple, you lay down a bass line drums and lead melody using Figure’s touch controls and get a fantastic piece of electric music as a reward. You can record a single bar that plays on a constant loop, layering in additional elements on oat a time for optimum creative control.
With a wide variety of instruments for the drum, bass, lead parts of your track, there a hundreds of possible variations in composition without even beginning to play with each instrument, the BPM or the key you’re playing in. the key and volume of each element is then in turn controlled by your finger on the touch pad, which you can move in real-time to craft your tunes. It’s something that need to be experienced in order to be fully understood, and at such a low price it makes sense that so many would be attracted to it already.
How it works
Touchpad – Set the pitch of your bass as well as dictating some of its rhythm by moving your finger here.
Scale – Add scale steps to your lead instrument and get a lot more variety from the touchpad’s pitch settings
Beats- Touch and drag up or down on the beats of each instruments to change the amount of notes you get per bar
Tweaks – After various of each instrument such as the delay on the lead or the snap of the bass here
Final Mix – Finish up your track by playing with the tempo, key and shuffle to fine tune your final sound
